What is French A?
In French A, students are just beginning to learn the French language. We will begin with common language concepts like the alphabet, numbers, the calendar, greetings, colors, etc. By the end of the year, students will have a good foundation for talking about themselves and their likes and dislikes. Students in French A focus on speaking and writing in the present tense. We will work on concepts like gender of nouns, adjective agreement, verb conjugations and simple sentence structures. Generally in French A, we will cover chapters 1-3 of the textbook in addition to using outside resources and materials to supplement the language learning experience. Culture studies will focus on France and its regions.
Classroom Expectations and Rules
1. Students are expected to be Class Act students at all times.
2. Students should demonstrate respect for themselves, their peers, and their teacher.
3. Students should come to class as enthusiastic as possible and willing to learn.
4. Students must come to class prepared with all necessary materials.
5. Students must speak in French at all times unless given permission to speak in English.
6. Students may not chew gum or eat candy in class.
The homework I give is intended to provide meaningful and necessary practice of skills being learned in the classroom. Students should expect to have about 3 formal assignments per week. In addition to written assignments, students should independently practice vocabulary and verb conjugations using techniques learned in the classroom such as flashcards and five column notes.
Regular homework assigned will be graded for completion not accuracy as students are just learning and practicing material. For these assignments (generally workbook pages or worksheets). Students will not receive full-credit for incomplete work or late work. Students are encouraged to seek help to complete homework and are allowed to hand in late work for half credit. Late work will not be accepted more than one week past its original due date. Students are responsible for handing in late work to the teacher. Failure to complete assignments on a regular basis may result in a detention or an ARC referral where they will be required to complete the necessary work.
For graded assignments, students will receive ten percent off per day it is late. As with regular daily assignments I believe that all assignments are necessary to practice material learned in class . If necessary students will be assigned to the ARC to complete these assignments.
Homework is posted in the classroom every day. I verbally remind the students of the homework and give them sufficient time to write the homework in their agenda book. If a student is uncertain of the homework, a student should email me or contact a classmate for clarification. If a student was absent, the student can contact me to receive information about the homework, but will also be given one day per absence to make up the assignment upon the student's return to school.
